Space Balkans, how I wrote it

Vegetables playing trumpet in Guča

Many of my early tracks were made, in their original version, as soundtrack for one of my YouTube videos published on my channel about travels. Space Balkans is one of them. What initially I intended to do was to create a small track in the style of the Serbian trumpet bands. If you ever been to Serbia you would probably know what I talking about. It is a very peculiar kind of music. I think that combination of trumpets and drums is typically Serbian and the best expression of this musical genre is the festival of Guča held every year in August. I was there once, ten years ago. It’s a crazy place where it can happen to sit in an open-air restaurant having three different bands around and of course each one of them playing a different songs (even if Kalashnikov by Goran Bregović can be heard quite often). Everybody plays trumpet in Guča, even salad as you can see in the cover picture…
However, getting back to Space Balkans, as it usually happens to me, I start with one thing in mind and what it comes out is quite different. What is probably remained from the original concept is a certain obsessive rhythm and some reminiscence of trumpet sound in one of the voice in the track. Next to it, it grew up another cyclic electronic tune vaguely reminding of SciFi sounds. When the track was remixed and eventually released for my first single, it was natural for me to put together these two inspirations in the title “Space Balkans”. Do you think the title fits the music? To be honest it makes come to my mind the idea of huge barbecues (another Balkan specialty) grilling steaks on the moon surface but maybe I’m just hungry…
